Kenya 2025
Day 1 Wednesday Left church at noon, meet Abdi at the airport. a friend of Alex’s. flew out about 3:30pm and arrived in Amsterdam about 7 am.
day 2 Thursday We were in the Amsterdam airport from about 7 am till 12:30pm. it was a great time to get to know the team better. We flew to Nairobi Kenya and landed about 9:30pm We stayed in a hotel for the night.
Day 3 Friday We visited the Kibera slums to visit Calvary Church there and meet with Pastor Timothy. that slum is the second largest in Africa. The church has a school with about 600 students. There had been some bad fires in the previous months leaving 8 dead. We visited the sights and prayed with some of the people affected. One of the places we visited had 8 people sleeping in a 8’x10’ room. We gave food and other supplies to 19 of the affected families. We helped serve meals to the students at the school in the church. They sang and danced with us. we were there for about 4 hours. we then traveled to shangilia children’s home where we would be spending the rest of our time. we were able to meet the kids before we had a late dinner.
Day 4 Saturday Today we were able to help out with the widows ministry. in Kenya widows are often forgotten and the husbands brother might try to take their land. They meet every week at the children’s home, some walking more than 5 miles. We also served them mandazi and chi tea. then we went to visit 3 of the widows homes. We visited a widow and her son. She is one of the leaders of the organization the widows have. We prayed with her and her son over their new kitchen that we would be helping build by making the walls out of mud on Thursday. Then we visited another widow. we are supporting them by paying local builders to redo her roof so it can capture fresh clean water into a new tank. They have been getting water from a small levy that was fed by a road ditch and small dirty spring. Love for Kenya, the organization we are working with wants to pay to have the projects done so that money can be brought into the community to try to help the community as a whole in the long term. Then we visited another widow. She had someone break into her home to try to force her off her land. We payed local builders to install new doors and windows so her and her kids could be safe and to deter them from continuing to try to force them off their land. after that we had several hours to play with the kids. Lastly after dinner we had a time of worship and Jonah from our team lead a devotional for all the students.
